What is my NPI Number?

The NPI Number is a unique 10-digit number issued by the CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) to health care providers in the United States.

Since 1996, HIPAA requires the adoption of a standard unique number for health care providers. The NPI Final Rule, issued in Jan 2004, has adopted the NPI number as that standard for health care provider identification. The NPI has replaced the UPIN (Unique Provider Identification Number) as the required identifier for all Medicare services, including health insurance claims.

NPIdb allows you to perform NPI Number Lookups of doctors & various medical entities for their unique NPI number from the NPI database. The information found on NPIdb is produced from the NPI Registry and provided in accordance with the Data Dissemination Notice.
